The 2016 NFL Draft is almost upon us and that means the culmination of months of work for the general managers and scouts across the league. After poring over hours and hours of player interviews, game tape and testing variables, it will soon be time to make the picks that make the difference between winners and losers in the NFL. And that means there will be significant pressure to get it right. For some teams, that pressure to succeed in the war room in the coming days is greater than ever. Here are six teams I feel absolutely have to come out of this Draft feeling good about their work in Chicago. Beginners guide Why is the Draft important? Cleveland Browns Ben Roethlisberger was selected 11th overall by the Steelers in 2004 after the Browns missed out In recent years, the Cleveland Browns have wheeled and dealed around draft boards and turned their back on the chance to draft genuine NFL superstars such as Ben Roethlisberger, Julio Jones and Odell Beckham Jr. in the process.Instead, the Browns have collected multiple draft picks and, for the most part, wasted them. So what have the Browns done this year under new management? The very same thing that hurt this club in the past - they have turned down the chance to select the second quarterback in this NFL Draft and must now make good on the multiple picks heading their way over the next three years. The approach makes sense given that the Browns are so devoid of talent and need to fill multiple areas of need. But this time around they have to hit on the multiple selections, especially if Carson Wentz turns out to be a star and the Browns are still searching for their first true franchise quarterback since re-entering the NFL in 1999.Indianapolis Colts Andrew Luck will celebrate if the Colts recruit some protection for him The recent drafting history of Colts general manager Ryan Grigson has not been all that great, in my mind. Indianapolis were crying out for an offensive lineman early last year and Grigson spoiled himself by grabbing another wide receiver in Phillip Dorsett when that was not an area of need. The Colts need to add some beef in the trenches - on offense and defense - and have to find a way to get franchise quarterback Andrew Luck some better protection. And this team cannot be pushed around as badly as they have been in recent years on defense.Grigson and head coach Chuck Pagano were at loggerheads last year yet both received four-year contract extensions. Its time for them to make their marriage of convenience work and that means drafting as many big men as possible in the coming days.New York Giants After signing Olivier Vernon, how much is left in the kitty? When the Giants stumbled to the end of a disappointing 2015 campaign, head coach Tom Coughlin paid with his job and was replaced by Ben McAdoo. Many felt the same fate would fall upon general manager Jerry Reese, but he somehow survived and although his seat is hot, he has a chance to re-build a crumbling roster.Reese did a nice job in free agency but massively over-spent in signing Olivier Vernon, Jason Pierre-Paul, Damon Harrison and Janoris Jenkins. Thats not the most financially prudent way to stock your roster and the Big Blue could pay for that extravagance down the road. This Draft is crucial for Reese to find some younger and cheaper players. He should be feeling the heat as Giants owner John Mara said: Every Draft is important but this one more so than usual. Its time to pick it up.Gulp!San Francisco 49ers Will the 49ers try to replace Colin Kaepernick? This time last year the 49ers were suffering through a series of high-profile defections and retirements. And they have yet to even scratch the surface in terms of rebuilding their roster. The Niners had money to spend in free agency but seemingly wanted no part of the spending spree and that puts added pressure on general manager Trent Baalke heading into this NFL Draft.San Franciscos needs are multiple and we have to wonder if they currently have their starting quarterback on the roster in Blaine Gabbert and Colin Kaepernick. The 49ers have to stop the bleeding and begin their rebuild and it all begins with this Draft.Denver Broncos Malik Jacksons exit means Denver have large shoes to fill Defending Super Bowl champions dont normally hit too many panic buttons heading into an NFL Draft the following year but the off-season raid of the Denver Broncos has raised the stakes for the Mile High club.It was bad enough for Denver to lose Malik Jackson and Danny Trevathan on their Super Bowl defence, but what are they planning to do at quarterback? Brock Osweiler jumped ship and joined in Houston and I have to wonder what the Broncos are going to do about that all-important position in Chicago this week. The Broncos currently have Mark Sanchez and Trevor Siemian on their roster and, in my mind, neither is anything close to being the long-term answer. Whether it be via a conventional pick or a trade, the Broncos have to do something at quarterback this week.New Orleans Saints Saints may opt to replace Drew Brees or bring in protection for him The Saints are feeling the heat on the defensive side of the ball because they set numerous unwanted records in 2015. Can they upgrade that unit enough in the coming days and not waste yet another season for Drew Brees?Or will they draft the eventual replacement for the 37-year-old Brees? There has been some reported interest in Paxton Lynch out of Memphis but taking a passer in the first round might rock the boat just a tad too much on Thursday night. Its also important to remember that the Saints have some serious salary cap issues and would love to stock their roster with some younger and cheaper players. This is a vital draft for the Saints if they are go get back into playoff contention. MONTREAL -- For a second year in a row, the Montreal Alouettes will start the CFL season with a new head coach. Alouettes owner Bob Wetenhall announced Monday that Tom Higgins will be the clubs new head coach. The former Edmonton Eskimos and Calgary Stampeders bench boss replaces general manager Jim Popp, who took over on Aug. 1 when the inexperienced Dan Hawkins was fired only five games into the 2013 season. Wetenhall made it clear in a statement that he did not want Popp, who is considered one of the CFLs best GMs but has a career 16-20 record as a coach, to continue in both jobs. "As Ive expressed to the media in recent weeks, I wanted to continue with the formula which has brought us the success weve enjoyed these past 17 years -- having a full-time head coach and a full-time general manager to fill each of these positions," said Wetenhall. "The criteria we established was to find an individual familiar with the CFL; someone with success in that position and a background as a position coach. In addition, we sought an individual with a record for moulding and delivering championship teams. "In Toms seven years as a head coach he won three division championships along with a Grey Cup, and twice earned recognition as the CFLs coach of the year. His head coaching record of 72-53-1 speaks for itself. We welcome Tom to the Alouettes family." Popp had made no secret of wanting to continue coaching, but Wetenhall put out a statement recently saying candidates would be interviewed. A year ago, the Alouettes waited until Feb. 19 to name Hawkins, a former U.S. university coach with no experience of the Canadian game. He was 2-3 when he was fired with the team in disarray. Popp, the Alouettes GM since they returned to Montreal in 1996, took over as coach for the third time in his career and went 6-7. It marked only the second time since 1996 the teamm had a losing record, matching the 8-10 mark Popp put up in his only full season as head coach in 2007.dddddddddddd It hurt that starting quarterback Anthony Calvillo was lost for the season in August to a concussion. This time, the team waited five days longer to name a new coach and came up with Higgins, who stepped down in December after five years as the CFLs director of officiating. Higgins did not even get introduced at a press conference. The club said "time constraints and personal obligations" prevented bringing him to Montreal for the announcement, but that he will talk to the media Tuesday on a conference call. He takes over a team that will not have CFL all-time passing leader Calvillo as its starter for the first time since 2000. Instead, 2006 Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith and young prospect Tanner Marsh are pegged to replace the retired future Hall of Famer. Higgins, who will turn 60 on July 13, led the Eskimos to 13-5 records twice and won a Grey Cup in 2003 in his four years with the club. He had a 28-25 record in three seasons in Calgary from 2005 to 2007. "Tom has worked with and tutored many of the CFLs finest quarterbacks -- Doug Flutie, Henry Burris and Ricky Ray, to mention a few," said team president Mark Weightman. "His expertise will be invaluable in the development of Troy Smith and Tanner Marsh." Higgins has spent 23 years in various CFL jobs, including a stint as GM in Edmonton. A native of Woodbridge, N.J., and a former linebacker and defensive tackle, Higgins played for Calgary and Saskatchewan in the 1970s. Popp replaced Rod Rust as coach at the end of the 2001 season, but gave way for Don Matthews the following season. He stepped in again when Matthews left for health reasons in 2006. Marc Trestman, now coach of the Chicago Bears, coached the club from 2008-2012, winning two Grey Cups.
