Machado singled again in the seventh off Mark Melancon.“Feels great, get it over with,” Machado said. “Even better with that W. It was a good day all around.”Manager Andy Green said Machado might have been over-aggressive on opening day.“I saw more enthusiasm out of Manny when Fernando gets hits than when he gets hits,” Green said. “He probably didn’t have the five at-bats he envisioned to start his Padres career, but after he struck out before the two hits he got, he was dancing in the dugout with Franmil between innings. He knows he’s good. He knows he’s fine. Good to get a couple of hits I’m sure but there was no panic there, no concern by anybody.”The signing of Machado to a $300 million Michael Wacha Jersey , 10-year contract early in spring training has energized a fan base desperate for a winning team. The Padres also promoted top prospect Tatis, who had two hits on opening day and just missed hitting his first home run when he doubled off the wall in center in the second Friday night to move Eric Hosmer to third. They both scored on Manuel Margot’s single. Tatis slid home and celebrated with Hosmer.“I show my emotions and that’s how I feel,” said Tatis, whose father played in the big leagues.Did he think his fly ball was gone? “No,” Tatis said. “I was just glad I was on base.”Machado has been impressed with Tatis.“He’s an athlete, plays the game the right way as well,” he said. “He brings a lot to this ballclub. We just need him to keep doing what he’s doing, and if he can do that we’re going to be a very good ballclub. He brings it every day. That’s what you need on your ballclub. Everybody else in here is feeding off of that energy and as a ballclub that’s what we need.”Kinsler homered leading off the third. He walked to begin the fourth and tried to score on Myer’s double to right but was thrown out, a call that was upheld after review.Holland (0-1) allowed three runs and four hits in four innings, struck out five and walked two.“There were just a couple pitches that got away,” Holland said. “You’ve got to give the credit to those guys. I made some good pitches on a few guys. The one Tatis hit off the wall, you’ve got to give the guy credit Ozzie Smith Jersey , he went out and got it. He’s a big league hitter. He’s up here for a reason.“He’s carrying himself very well,” Holland added. “Give the kid some credit. He came in opening day, did his thing. We’ve just got to keep doing what we can to figure him out right now. I don’t think any of us got to really see him in spring.”UP NEXTGiants: Dereck Rodriguez, who was 6-4 with a 2.81 ERA as a rookie in 2018, is scheduled to start Saturday night. HOUSTON (AP) — After losing three straight games following tough first innings by his starters, Houston Astros manager A.J. Bregman’s sacrifice fly to right field put Houston up 5-4 and chased Hildenberger.Adalberto Mejia took over and the Astros added an insurance run on an RBI single by Michael Brantley. The Astros turned a close game into a rout with a four-run eighth highlighted by Altuve’s ninth home run this season. All the runs in that inning were unearned because of errors by shortstop Jorge Polanco and pitcher Tyler Duffey and a passed ball by Mitch Garver.Houston had been foiled by big first innings in a three-game losing streak with its starters allowing a combined 10 runs in the opening frame. The first-inning trouble continued on Tuesday when Eddie Rosario hit a three-run homer off Miley with one out in the inning. But Miley didn’t let the game snowball after that, settling down to retire 17 of the next 18, including 15 straight after a double by Jonathan Schoop to start the second inning that gave the Astros a chance to get back in it.“Feel a little snake bitten in the first inning,” Hinch said. “But we’re never out of it Albert Pujols Jersey , obviously, and we came on pretty strong at the end of the game especially once they came back and tied the game. He kept us off-balance,” Minnesota manager Rocco Baldelli said. “After putting together a nice first inning and jumping ahead, I think he looked like he felt pretty good out there with what he was doing.”Hector Rondon (2-0) allowed three hits and a run in the seventh for the win.Miley, who is in his first season in Houston, said that Springer told him in spring training that if he could keep it close when he pitches that the offense would always give the team a chance to win. And the lefty remembered those words after the first on Tuesday night.“My job was just to try and keep it right there and we did,” he said. “We bounced back, put some runs together, put some big innings together and blew it up in the end. That’s what this team is capable of.”Minnesota starter Michael Pineda allowed eight hits and four runs in 5 1/3 innings as the Twins saw a four-game winning streak end.The Astros cut the lead to 3-1 in the third on an RBI single by Springer.Houston trailed by two with one out in the fifth when Springer hit a run-scoring double on a grounder down the left field line to get the Astros within 3-2.
