One big issue for the Rockies was the absence of Daniel Murphy due to his fractured finger. There are many options to replace him, but Bud Black has to work to find the right combination and lineup for success. However, Ian Desmond is going to stay in the outfield, where he’s shone so far this season. This is eerily similar to the 2017 season, when Desmond was injured in spring training and Reynolds stepped up to fill the void. While the Rockies will likely miss the offensive opportunities Murphy can bring, at least they have plenty of options to flush out the infield until he can return.Gray K’s 10 in loss to Marlins | Rockies.comJon Gray started the 2019 season off on a pretty good foot, at least until his calf began cramping in the seventh inning. Gray had a couple of mistakes in his outing, but overall showed the improvements he worked on in the offseason. He remained level-headed and consistent, showing some great pitches. He held the Marlins to five hits, allowing just one walk. Despite Gray’s efforts, the Rockies couldn’t put together any offense against Sandy Alcantara, who shook the Rockies up in his seventh career start. We’ll see Chad Bettis in Monday’s game, and we’ll see if the Rockies can start off this next series on a good note.
