GLENEAGLES, Scotland - As if players dont already face enough pressure in the Ryder Cup, the walk into golfs most boisterous arena goes through a tunnel of time. One side of the short tunnel is painted American red and celebrates past victories, with images of Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer, Paul Azinger and Ben Hogan. The other side is European blue with a roll call of winners that feature Tony Jacklin and Nick Faldo, Colin Montgomerie and Bernhard Langer.Emerging from the tunnel, players immediately see blue bunting on a three-story hospitality suite with the words, Where Legends are Forged.Take a breath. They make their way to the first tee, where a U-shaped grandstand has 1,892 seats filled with fans who are chanting, singing and stomping. This is no ordinary golf tournament. Its like walking into a football stadium, said Stephen Gallacher, who grew up near Gleneagles and has never seen the course looking like this. Not with fans 10-deep on both sides of the fairway, draped in flags of the European Union, the nine European countries represented, and yes, even the Stars & Stripes. That tunnel has got some iconic images through it, and youll hear the crowd, youll hear the noise, Justin Rose said. You really begin to sense that even on the practice range. The atmosphere really amps up. ... I can only imagine that by the time you walk to the tee, youre fully ready to go. Theres absolutely no doubt. And there was one more touch to add inspiration to the home team. From the first tee, players cant help but notice a message written across the back of the 50-foot grandstand behind the 18th green to the left. Its a quote from Seve Ballesteros, forever the face of European golf in the Ryder Cup.As a player and captain, there are unforgettable moments when you are competing for the people of your continent.Four long days of speculation and anticipation give way to the most frenetic three days in golf, starting with a tee shot unlike any other. Its definitely the most impressive first hole we play throughout our careers, Sergio Garcia said. That tee shot on the first is always different, the way they build it up and all the songs you hear and everything. It all unfolds onFriday morning when Bubba Watson and Webb Simpson go for a third straight victory in fourballs against Rose and Henrik Stenson.Considering the last two Ryder Cups — both European victories — were decided by one point, every match matters.Europe has won seven of the last nine times, and it has not lost on home soil since 1993 when Tom Watson was the American captain. Going back in time to change its fortunes, the U.S. team brought back Watson to lead the way. At 65, he is the oldest captain in Ryder Cup history.Watson stuck with what has worked, and he threw in a few wrinkles. Bubba Watson and Simpson won both their fourballs matches at Medinah, wrapping up both of them on the 14th hole. Keegan Bradley and Phil Mickelson went 3-0 at Medinah, and they are the anchor match against Rory McIlroy and Garcia, Europes most powerful tandem. Were looking to hand them their first defeat tomorrow morning, McIlroy said. The new wrinkle? Old Tom Watson created the youngest pairing in Ryder Cup history with 21-year-old Jordan Spieth and 24-year-old Patrick Reed going against Europe stalwart Ian Poulter and Gallacher, another rookie and the lone Scot in a Ryder Cup that has not been held in the home of golf since 1973.I would imagine for the rookies, its going to be a bit of a shock, Lee Westwood said of the first tee. Its a bit of an intimidating atmosphere, but nothing they cant handle.Watson has been preaching redemption from the Americans meltdown at Medinah, where they lost the largest lead ever by a home team. Europe captain Paul McGinley is talking about a template of success, even though his four teams on Friday morning are entirely new.The fun is only starting now, McGinley said. We relish the challenge.Adding to the fun are the final two matches.Poulter is like a peacock, strutting around Gleneagles, eager as ever to show off his Ryder Cup feathers. He was singled out even ahead of McIlroy — a four-time major champion and golfs No. 1 player — as the one guy Americans would love to knock off. Watson is sending out a pair of rookies against him who have nothing to lose.I told them today, Im going to throw you in the ocean without a life preserver. Youre on your own. You get out there and you get it done, Watson said.As for the anchor match involving Mickelson and McIlroy? Watson compared that match with the main event in the first round. Now see what happens in the next 72 hours, he said. Robert Woods Jersey . -- Terry Francona likened the atmosphere at Kauffman Stadium on Tuesday to a playoff game in October. Marcus Peters Jersey . Left-handed reliever Boone Logan agreed to a $16.5 million, three-year contract on Friday, a person familiar with the negotiations told The Associated Press. ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- The Denver Broncos locked up a shutdown cornerback, only his name wasnt Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. The Broncos spent the first day of free agency bolstering their defensive backfield, agreeing to a four-year deal with Pro Bowl safety T.J. Ward on Tuesday afternoon and then hours later reaching an agreement on a six-year contract with cornerback Aqib Talib. Talib and Ward will play in a secondary that will be without Champ Bailey, who was released last week, and may be moving on from Rodgers-Cromartie, who entered free agency without a new deal from the Broncos. The 28-year-old Talib had quite a year for New England last season, with teams largely choosing to go the other way rather than pick on him. Sound familiar? It was the same way for Bailey in his prime. By agreeing to a deal, Talib seemed to show theres no bad blood between him and the Broncos after he hurt his knee early in the AFC championship game against Denver when he was bumped by Wes Welker on a crossing route. The leagues officiating chief later ruled it a legal hit by Welker. ESPN first announced the agreement with Talib, which is reportedly worth $57 million. The Broncos also are reportedly interested in defensive lineman DeMarcus Ware, who was released by Dallas on Tuesday in a salary-cap move. Talib will be reunited with cornerback Chris Harris Jr., whos also a former Kansas Jayhawk. Harris played opposite of Rodgers-Cromartie last season before blowing out a knee against San Diego in the divisional round. Harris later posted on his Twitter account: "I had to call my Fam Talib to see if it was real." Yep, its real. The Broncos also brought in Ward, who had 129 tackles and two interceptions for Cleveland in 2013. The Broncos are looking for some stability at a position that got juggled last year, with the loss of Rahim Moore and the inconsistent play of Duke Ihenacho. Veteran Mike Adams, also formerly of Clevelannd, started the season as a reserve but ended up in the starting lineup.dddddddddddd "Hes a young, explosive strong safety who is going to bring a lot of energy and toughness to our secondary," Broncos boss John Elway said of Ward. Denvers big receiving news Tuesday was a two-year extension for fourth receiver Andre Caldwell, who could move up a notch if the Broncos part ways with Eric Decker. Caldwell came on late in the season when Welker was sidelined with a concussion. The 28-year-old Caldwell had 11 of his 16 receptions over the final three games of the season. His most productive game in 2013 was against San Diego on Dec. 12, when he had six receptions for 59 yards and two TDs. Caldwell was held without a catch in the 43-8 loss to Seattle in the Super Bowl. "Hopefully I can compete for an extended role this year and contribute a lot more to the team," Caldwell said. Caldwell received an invitation from Peyton Manning to attend off-season workouts at Duke University. Last spring, only Welker, Demaryius Thomas and Decker were invited to work on their chemistry with the five-time NFL MVP quarterback. "Its just a process of building confidence with those guys all the way from April," Caldwell said. Ward is expected to be a main piece around which the Broncos reshape a defence that was obliterated by an injury epidemic last season, losing Von Miller, Harris, Derek Wolfe, Kevin Vickerson and Moore. The Broncos also could seek a replacement for linebacker Wesley Woodyard, a free agent who is exploring other options. Theyll need a new starting guard now that Zane Beadles has agreed to terms with Jacksonville. Running back Knowshon Moreno is a free agent as well after rushing for 1,038 yards and 10 TDs in 2013. The Broncos also hired two new coaches on Tuesday, bringing in assistant offensive line coach James Cregg and offensive quality control coach Bo Hardegree.
