ALLEN PARK, Mich. -- After two injury-filled seasons, Detroit Lions receiver Ryan Broyles is ready to get going. "Im out here making plays," Broyles said. "I feel confident in what Ive shown this preseason. Its just the beginning for me." Broyles confidence couldnt come at a better time. The 2012 second-round draft pick has been thrust into a position competition after an ACL injury shortened his rookie season, and a ruptured Achilles in Week 8 against the Cowboys ended his 2013 season. Those injuries were partially responsible for Detroits acquisition of free agent receiver Golden Tate during the off-season. Tates arrival, coupled with Detroits decision to draft receiving tight end Eric Ebron with the 10th overall pick, meant that Broyles would have to fight to remain with the Lions during training camp. Broyles response to the challenge has been a solid one. He leads all Lions receivers with eight catches for 113 yards in Detroits first three preseason games, and his effort hasnt been lost on coach Jim Caldwell. "The quarterbacks like him," Caldwell said after Detroits third preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. "(Broyles) has an unusual knack of being able to split two defenders with speed and power. His hands are reliable. Hes doing a nice job." Broyles said the key to his preseason performances is the fact that hes been able to participate in nearly all of Detroits training camp workouts for the first time in his career. "This is the first time that Ive gotten the full feel of the offence and rhythm with the quarterbacks," he said. "I feel like Im in a good spot." Broyles faces competition from a trio of receivers with experience in the Lions organization. Kris Durham played in all 16 games for the Lions in 2013. At 6-foot-6, his height gives Detroit an extra option in multi-receiver formations. Durham also has a close relationship with Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford going back to when they were college teammates at Georgia. Veteran Kevin Ogletree was signed by Detroit in October 2013, and has six years of experience as both a receiver and special teams contributor. Ogletree believes that his efforts during training camp will be enough to remain with the team, but he admitted the competition to join Calvin Johnson, Tate, and return specialist Jeremy Ross on the roster has been difficult. "Its very healthy to have this many guys that want to be great," Ogletree said. "Big decisions always happen around this time. Its the beauty of this game, but its sort of the beast of it, too." Second-year player Corey Fuller spent the 2013 season on the Lions practice squad, and the former sixth-round draft pick is eligible to return there this year. Fuller, Durham, Ogletree and Broyles are all expected to receive extended playing time during Thursdays preseason finale against the Buffalo Bills. Just how many roster places the quartet are fighting for is unclear. That answer depends on the amount of depth Caldwell wants to commit to the position given that Ebron and tight end Brandon Pettigrew give Stafford additional receiving options. Regardless of how many spots are up for grabs, Fuller said he understands just how important Thursdays game is to his career. "Its my last chance to show coaches what I can do," he said. "Hopefully I can stick around." Logan Cooke Jersey . - First-timer Chris Harris Jr. Jaguars Jerseys . His right arm rested in a sling and was encased in a cast from above the elbow to his hand. The 36-year-old Klose is in his fourth World Cup and had been level with former Germany striker Gerd Mueller on 14 goals. Ronaldo also scored his 15th against Ghana, in a 3-0 win in 2006 in Germany. With coach Joachim Loew preferring to play with a "false nine" system without a striker, Klose sat out Germanys opening 4-0 rout of Portugal. But with Ghana threatening to put a damper on Germanys hope of winning the group, Loew turned to his veteran, who delivered again. "I am very happy for Klose. He was on the pitch for two minutes and he scored. Its sensational for his career," Loew said. "He is a player who can come on and have a decisive impact. Thats great for me, for the team, and for him." Still, the result revived Ghanas hopes of progressing aftter its opening 2-1 loss to the United States.dddddddddddd "It was a good competitive game. We did our best and we had many other chances that could have produced goals," Ghana coach James Appiah said. "Ghanaians have a strong mentality when it comes to football, to fight to the end to matter what is happening. Playing against Germany is difficult especially when you are a goal down. So you have to have the right players with the right mentality on the pitch." Germany took the lead when Thomas Mueller sent a dipping cross toward Goetze, who attempted a header but the ball bounced off his left knee into the net. Germanys lead lasted only three minutes. Ayew rose between Per Mertesacker and Shkodran Mustafi to head the equalizer inside the far post from a cross from Harrison Affu. With the non-German side of crowd loudly behind the Ghana team, the African side kept putting pressure on the favoured Germans. Gyan beat an offside trap by Mats Hummels and Mertesacker in the 63rd, ran into space and fired the ball past goalkeeper Manuel Neuer into the far corner to raise Ghanas hopes of an upset. In between the first two goals, a fan ran onto the pitch waving his shirt. He did not threaten any players but shook hands with Ghanas Sully Muntari, who escorted him off the field before he was picked up by a security official. Ushers then moved to block stairwells leading to the pitch. Both teams had late chances to grab the winner but Neuer and his Ghana counterpart Fatawu Dauda produced good saves. Muntari picked up a late yellow card late in the match for his second booking and will miss his teams final group game against Portugal. Schalke forward Kevin-Prince Boateng played from the start for Ghana, pitting him against half-brother Jerome Boateng, a Germany defender. There was little contact between the two and Jerome was substituted at halftime with a hip injury. Mueller, who scored a hat trick against Portugal, had to be helped off the pitch after the match with a bloodied face after colliding with John Boye. -------- Lineups: Germany: Manuel Neuer; Jerome Boateng (Shkodran Mustafi, 46th), Per Mertesacker, Mats Hummels, Benedikt Howedes; Sami Khedira (Bastian Schweinsteiger, 70th), Philipp Lahm, Toni Kroos, Mesut Ozil; Thomas Muller, Mario Gotze (Miroslav Klose, 69th). "A lot of things didnt go our way," DeRozan said, "but we shouldnt have put ourselves in that situation to start with." The Hawks went ahead for good when Millsap found DeMarre Carroll all alone under the basket for a layup, which put Atlanta up 111-109 with 2:37 remaining and gave Millsap his 10th assist. Toronto went more than 3 1-2 minutes without scoring in the overtime, allowing the Hawks to hang on when most of their shots werent falling, either. "Weve got to learn from it," DeRozan said. Kyle Korver added 16 points for Atlanta. DeRozan had a double-double, pulling down 10 rebounds, while Kyle Lowry chipped in with 20 points. The Hawks got off to a miserable start, making just 6 of 24 shots in the opening period and trailing 22-9. But the Raptors failed to take advantage of the poor shooting, and the Hawks bench got the home team back in the game. Shelvin Mack knocked down a buzzer-beating 3-pointer at the end of the first quarter, cutting the Raptors lead to 26-17. Then, Atlanta started the next period with a quick 8-0 run -- and, just like that, it was a ballgame again. Cartier Martin swished a par of treys, sandwiched around Mike Scotts driving layup. The game was tied 49-all at halftime. Neither team could break away in the third, the margin never more than four points, and there were 10 lead changes in the final period.
