Skipper Shahid Afridi struck 49 off 19 balls and bagged 2-27 to propel Pakistan to a thumping 55-run World Twenty20 victory over Bangladesh in Super 10 Group 2, at Eden Gardens. Afridi weighed in with four sixes after Ahmed Shahzad (52 off 39) and Mohammad Hafeez (64 off 42) had completed fifties, Pakistan finding form after a disappointing Asia Cup campaign to post 201-5 - their highest total in a World T20 and only the second time in their history they have reached 200.Bangladesh, who finished top of Group A in the qualifying stage, were overpowered despite a battling 50 not out off 40 balls from Shakib Al Hasan and finished well short on 146-6.Shahzad and Hafeez (64 off 42) put on 95 for the second wicket in 11.5 overs after left-arm spinner Arafat Sunny (2-34) struck with his third ball, bowling Sharjeel Khan (18 off 10 balls) off stump as he attempted to cut.Hafeez got off the mark second ball, launching Sunny down the track for six to set the tone for a dominant knock featuring seven fours and two maximums. From 90-1 after 10 overs, the pair kicked on until Shahzad - pulling Sabbir Rahman leg-side with a flourishing follow-through - picked out Mahmudullah at midwicket.Afridi, who promoted himself up the order to four, plundered 14 off three Mashrafe Mortaza deliveries to get going before belting Al-Amin Hossain over long on with classical efficiency as Pakistan powered on.It took a stunning boundary catch to remove Hafeez - Soumya Sarkar leaping high to prevent a six, then flicking the ball up in the air as he stepped over the rope, before athletically completing the catch while facing towards the crowd.Afridi fell just short of his fifty in the final over, holing out to Mahmudullah at deep midwicket off Taskin Ahmed (2-32) as he sought to swat his fifth six.Bangladeshs chase faltered in the first over as Soumya lost his off-stump to Mohammad Amir to fall for a second-ball duck but had just rallied to 44-1 when Afridi struck in successive overs, bowling Sabbir Rahman and picking up the key wicket of Tamim Iqbal, who failed to clear Imad Wasim on the mid-wicket rope.Shakib Al Hasan played a lone hand thereafter, becoming only the second Bangladesh player in history to reach 1,000 T20I runs, reaching his fifty in the final over after striking five fours and a six in total.Watch highlights of Pakistan v Bangladesh at 6pm on Sky Sports 2. It was Gordons eighth career win at Martinsville, but first since he swept the two races at the track in 2005. Hes tied with Hendrick Motorsports teammate Jimmie Johnson for Martinsville victories, but both trail Richard Petty (15) and Darrell Waltrip (11) on the career list. Most important, though, is that the victory moved Gordon from fifth to third in the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship. Matt Kenseth and Johnson left Martinsville tied atop the standings with three races remaining, and Gordon sits 27 points behind the leaders. Kevin Harvick is 28 points out, while Kyle Busch is 36 points behind. Kenseth led a race-high 202 laps and was out front on the final restart with 77 laps remaining and Gordon lurking in third. Gordon stalked him for more than 50 laps, thinking to himself, "What would Jimmie Johnson do, or better yet, what would Richard Petty do?" before finally making the pass for the lead with 21 laps remaining. Gordon didnt look back in snapping a 32-race losing streak dating to last years season finale at Homestead. "Matt drove a really first-class calibre race today and I didnt know if we were going to get him, but it sure was awesome when we finally did and just kind of hoped there were no cautions," Gordon said. The victory clinched the manufacturers championship for Chevrolet, which won for the 11th consecutive season and 37th time overall. Chevrolet did it this year in the debut season of its SS race car. Kenseth tied his career-best with a second-place finish, closing the gap on Johnson, who was up four points as they came into one of Johnsons best tracks and one of Kenseths worst tracks. He had to drive from the middle of the pack to save his finish after a call not to pit midway through the race backfired, but Kenseth was still a bit disappointed not to leave with the victory. "Whenever your team puts you in front for that last run and youre out there leading, you get beat, youre always a little bit disappointed," Kenseth said.dddddddddddd "I just got beat by honestly experience and a better driver of this track. I was hesitant to change my line and do the things he was doing because what I was doing got me there. Just got too tight at the end. Wish I could do it over." When it was time to leave, though, Kenseth had found the silver lining. "I mean, gosh, for how Martinsville has been for me, how could you not be pleased?" he said. "The only guy happier is Jeff. I feel like when my team is at its best and we do everything right, I feel like we can race anybody at these next three tracks. Anything can happen, but man, were in it." Clint Bowyer finished third, his best finish of the Chase, and moved two spots in the standings to sixth. Defending Sprint Cup champion Brad Keselowski, who is not part of the Chase, was fourth. Johnson finished fifth and braced for an epic fight for his sixth championship. "Its been a great battle with (Kenseth) and (Gordon) has really shown that he wants to be part of this deal as well," Johnson said. "Its going to be a dogfight to the end -- the way I would like to race for a championship, and I know thats what the fans want to see, so well be digging hard." Harvick was sixth, followed by pole-sitter Denny Hamlin, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Greg Biffle and Jamie McMurray. Biffle angrily confronted Johnson on pit road after the race, accusing the five-time champion of running into him and tearing off his rear bumper. "It takes a lot to get a rear bumper to come off," Biffle said. "Ive got to look back and see what happened. He claims he was inside of me, but it sure felt like he hit me from behind and rubbed it across." Biffle grabbed Johnsons shoulder to get his attention, exchanged words with him, and as he turned to walk away, Johnson reached to grab his arm to finish the discussion. Biffle ended the conversation.
